Clinic for Dolls

Clinic for Dolls Review

The dynamic four-piece centered around Polish guitar maestro Maurycy Mauser Stefanowicz (ex-Vader, Dies Irae, Christ Agony) decided that something incorporating day and night, light and darkness would suit Unsun best. A label or their music, which is melancholic and a little dark at times, yet catchy...something that would put a name to the bittersweet twist of Annelyse Aya Stefanowicz s highly melodic vocals topping the driving force of the underlying guitar riffs. This unique mix easily made Unsuns' debut album The End Of Life one of the most promising releases of 2008. The same enthusiasm will certainly help boost the excitement for the new album from Unsun, Clinic For Dolls .

Actual Miles: Henley's Greatest Hits

Actual Miles: Henley's Greatest Hits Review

Just as Don Henley's work with the Eagles in the 1970s chronicled a culture that was rapidly spinning out of control, his '80s output cataloged and criticized a decade of greed, cruelty, and prurient interest in the misfortune of others. But this is music, not journalism, and despite the overt seriousness of such songs as "Dirty Laundry," "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," "The Boys of Summer," and especially the somber, elegiac "The End of the Innocence," Henley's field reports were tuneful in the extreme. The two new tracks on Actual Miles--"The Garden of Allah" and "You Don't Know Me at All"--didn't quite click, but otherwise this greatest-hits package couldn't be more solid. --Daniel Durchholz

America: Live

America: Live Review

Formed in the late-60’s in the UK by 3 sons of U.S. Air Force officers, America (DEWEY BUNNELL, DAN PEEK, and GERRY BECKLEY) crafted a soft folk-rock styling in the same vein as CROSBY, STILLS and NASH, JAMES TAYLOR, and NEIL YOUNG. After their self-titled debut album was released in 1972, the band won the Grammy® Award for Best New Artist.

By 1975, America had 4 songs in the Top 10 Pop Singles chart in the US ("Tin Man", "Ventura Highway", "I Need You", and "Horse With No Name"). They had released the George Martin-produced "Holiday" in late 1974, and would release a few more albums before Peek would leave the band. This performance captures America at the top of their game.

Tracklisting:
1. Ventura Highway
2. I Need You
3. Don’t Cross The River
4. Horse With No Name
5. Moon Song
6. Lonely People
7. Windwave
8. Rainbow Song
9. Tin Man
10. California Revisited
11. Green Monkey

The Fall of Eagles / Somewhere Between Darkness and Light

The Fall of Eagles / Somewhere Between Darkness and Light Review

The Fall of Eagles Suite:
At the start of the First World War three great dynastic houses dominated Europe: the Hapsburgs of Austria-Hungary, the Hohenzollerns of Germany, and the Romanovs of Russia. By the end of the war, all three houses had been deposed. This musical triptych represents the fall of each house: 'Sarajevo' (the Hapsburgs), 'Potsdam' (the Hohenzollerns), and 'Yekaterinburg' (the Romanovs). 'The Fall of Eagles' is a reminder that no one is immune to the horrors of war.

Somewhere Between Darkness and Light:
A musical journey of mystery and introspection, from the depths of despair to the euphoria of grace. 'Zarathustra was Wrong' begs the question who has the final say over what is right and wrong? '.000001' explores how hope, no matter how small, can achieve great things. 'Eternal is the Fretless Soul' is the triumph of the ultimate goal: peace of mind borne from a perpetual state of grace. Somewhere between darkness and light is where the truth of life exists.

Marvin Gaye - Live in Montreux 1980

Marvin Gaye - Live in Montreux 1980 Review

Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognizable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 was front-page news around the world and was followed by the award winning biographical movie "Ray".
